Summary of Israeli High-Tech Company Capital Raising Q1/2015
$994 million raised in Q1/2015 – the second highest quarterly amount in a decade. Key facts: Israeli VC fund first investments up 55%from the previous quarter; Internet attracted $343 million – highest ever quarterly amount for the sector ; Initial revenue stage led all investments for the first time since 2013
Corporate venturing has a character of its own
The most common source of high-tech Company funding following the initial angel investment stage is venture capital funds. However, in recent years, investments made by corporate ventures have become increasingly frequent, especially in Israel. In 2014, the most popular investment targets were in Israel’s Internet sector, which received the largest number of first investments, followed by communications, IT & enterprise software and the life sciences. Given the rise in activity, it is worthwhile to gain a better understanding of the corporate investment vehicle for investees – its advantages and drawbacks

A high-tech index is a good idea, a separatist divisional approach – not so much
Earlier in April, the Chief Scientist at the Ministry of Economy, Dr. Avi Hasson, published a new metric index, attempting to gauge the Israeli high-tech industry. The index looks into the local high-tech industry in two layers. The first layer deals in quantifiable data relating to startups – the number of companies established, the capital raised, the number of public offerings and exits, and the values of such deals
