Gardia Medical specializes in the development of catheter-based delivery systems that easily integrate with the standard workflow of stenting and other cardiovascular intervention procedures. Gardia Medical is currently introducing the first wire-independent distal filtration Embolic Protection Device (EPD). Compatibility with standard guide wires and the seamless integration with interventional procedure workflow promises to set a new standard for the cardiovascular intervention field. TECHNOLOGY

Gardia Medical's proprietary Deliver, Lock and Deploy (DLD) technology enables in-situ locking of cardiovascular devices such as EPD's onto a standard guide wire anywhere along the wire. Its modular approach provides a unique and elegant solution for the interventional physician and promises to set a new standard of care for the cardiovascular intervention field.

Gardia Medical's technology allows the clinician to use his/her guide wire of choice without affecting the standard procedure workflow. Easy deliverability facilitates successful passage through the lesion site. Gardia Medical's advanced mechanical locking mechanism and stand-alone filter are delivered via a delivery catheter, and can be positioned in any location along the vessel without compromising wire performance. The mechanism is remotely activated from the proximal end, locking and deploying the stand-alone filter onto the guide wire, creating an in-situ embolic protection unit.

EPD's are known to reduce the incidence of embolic complications during catheter-based procedures such as carotid and SVG angioplasty. However, physicians looking to use EPD's today face a number of challenges, the first being the need to use dedicated guide wires which can be difficult to maneuver, and lead to more complex, costly and lengthy procedures.

The Gardia EPD rapid exchange delivery system locks the stand-alone filter unit onto any standard guide wire, allowing the clinician to use his/her wire of choice. Unlike other devices, the Gardia EPD filter is not pre-attached to the distal end of the guide wire. It can be positioned anywhere along the vessel to ensure maximal side branch protection.

The WIRION is a distal embolic protection system comprised of an independent Filter Unit that can be delivered, locked and deployed on any commercially marketed guide wires, according to physician preference, anywhere on the wire, in minimally invasive interventional procedures. Gardia Medical’s Embolic Protection System allows the physician to use any 0.014" guide wire of choice throughout the entire procedure, cross challenging anatomies with confidence, and lock the filter on the same guide wire anywhere along the wire.
