TECHNOLOGY

LSI Logic Israel focused on development of a programmable baseband processor for third generation (3G) mobile terminals. This integrated chip-set along with its embedded software handles the communications protocols required by single mode 3G W-CDMA (UMTS) terminals as well as multi mode UMTS + GSM/GPRS terminals. The baseband processor chipset has been developed around the core technology of Modem Art Ltd., the Programmable Modem Engine (PME). The MA1000 line is built around the PME technology. The PME is a powerful physical layer processor architecture optimized for W-CDMA modem implementation. The PME's multiprocessing architecture enables a rapid realization of complex wireless physical layer (like the requirements of the 3G W-CDMA standard). The PME technology facilitates software only upgrade, enabling to track frequent 3GPP standard releases and displaces the need for hardware modifications. Thus, it saves time to market and reduces development risks and costs. The Modem-Art unique implementation of the PME maintains these great benefits while preserving a small silicon footprint and maintaining an extremely low power consumption.
